Pomegranate Sheera/ Kesari

Sheera or Rava Kesari is a classic Indian sweet.Pomegranates are called Super Foods. But this fruit is not a favourite among most of the kids.I always wanted to include this rich fruit in my kids diet..as i was surfing one day came across this amazing recipe on a famous blog. It was loved by all. Since it is Valentine's Day special and I thought of giving it a heart shape.

Jewel like seeds of pomegranates are packed with antioxidants and vitamins. This ruby-red fruit is a Cure-All for just about any ailments like stomach upsets, menopausal hot flushes, conjunctivitis, lowers BP and cholesterol, wards off flu, reduces inflammation and much more...

Ingredients:

Semolina/Rava/Sooji -1/2 cup (I used roasted)
Pomegranate Juice -1 1/2 cup( I used fresh juice)
Sugar -1/4 cup and a little more
Salt - a pinch
Cardamom Powder - 1/4 tsp
Ghee/Oil/Butter-1 tsp +1/4 tsp
Roasted Nuts & Raisins - (optional)

Method:

  • Deseed one Pomegranate, add little water and blend to a smooth juice. Then strain it and keep aside
  • Now heat 1/2 tsp oil/ ghee in a pan, then add semolina and roast for 1-2 minutes till it turns light golden brown.
  • Once done remove from the stove and keep aside.
  • Then pour fresh pomegranate juice to the pan and bring it to boil, once it starts boiling add the roasted semolina and keep stirring.
  • After a minute it will start to thicken and leave the edges.
  •  Then add sugar and keep stirring for another 2-3 minutes or until the sugar gets evaporated.
  • At this stage add ghee and cardamom powder and stir for a minute and switch off the flame.
  • If u want u can add roasted cashews and raisins now, but i skipped since i planned to cut out to heart shape.
  • Grease a plate with ghee ( I used olive oil)
  • Transfer the sheera on the plate and spread evenly.
  • Allow to cool or refrigerate and then cut them as desired.
Note:

  • I used roasted rava so skipped the 2nd step.

  • Food Art...Something that I love to do :)

    Happy Cooking!!
