Urad Rava Idli

Urad Rava Idlis... Whenever I tried to make these it used to be a major flop. It was then my very good friend gave me this recipe. She is an expert cook and whatever she makes is perfect and delicious. These are light, spongy and low in calories yet filling. They can be had on days of fasts too. Thanks a lot for this perfect one!!

Ingredients:

Servings- 24 medium sized idlies

 Sooji Rava - 1 cup
Urad dal - 1/2 cup
Salt - as per taste
Method:
  • Soak urad dal for 4 hours.
  • Roast rava, divide into two halves and keep aside to cool.
  • After 4 hours grind urad to a smooth and semi watery batter.
  • Add 1/2 cup of the roasted rava, salt to the urad batter and mix well.
  • Then sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup on the top of the batter.
  • Ferment for 7-8 hours.
  • Mix well and pour the fermented batter into idli moulds.
  • Steam for 10 - 12 mins
  • Serve hot with sambhar and chutney of your choice.
Note:
  • Urad batter should be a little watery as rava tends to absorb water.
  • Do not alter with proportions. Stick to the instructions given in the recipe for best results.
  • Even though I used roasted rava, i lightly roasted it again before adding to batter.
  • This batter can even be poured into plates, then steamed and cut into desired shapes and served.

HAPPY COOKING!!!
